Dawood Ibrahim es el jefe del sindicato del crimen de Mumbai en India, la mafia más poderosa de este enorme país.

Además se le acusa de ser un temido criminal, traficante de armas, extorsionista y narcotraficante, se le considera terrorista, culpable de sangrientos atentados en las ciudades de la India.

Actualmente se encuentra en la lista de los más buscados de Interpol por crimen organizado y falsificación. Ocupó el cuarto lugar en el mundo en el Top 10 de criminales más temidos de Forbes de 2008. Ocupa el puesto 57 en la lista de las personas más poderosas del mundo (también según Forbes).

Dawood Ibrahim está acusado de liderar un vasto imperio ilegal en expansión. Después de los atentados de Bombay de 1993, organizados y financiados por Ibrahim, se convirtió en el hombre más buscado de la India. Según Estados Unidos, Ibrahim ha mantenido estrechos vínculos con al-Qaeda y Osama bin Laden. Como resultado, Estados Unidos declaró a Dawood Ibrahim “terrorista de peligro global” en 2003 y llevó el asunto ante las Naciones Unidas en un intento por congelar sus activos en todo el mundo y tomar medidas enérgicas contra sus operaciones.
